Hello World: Why I am Becoming The Datavist

For years, my world was defined by the tangible: the rustle of leaves, the quiet focus of a classroom, and the methodical pace of learning. My professional journey began in the serenity of the wilderness as a Forest Ranger, followed by the rewarding challenge of being a Tutor. These roles taught me the value of observation, the power of clear communication, and the joy of helping others understand complex ideas, skills I never imagined would lay the groundwork for my future.

Life however, often leads us down unexpected trails. Seeking a change that leveraged strategic thinking and analysis, I embarked on a new path: a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with the University of the People (UoPeople). This is where the unexpected happened.

I was introduced to the fascinating universe of Data Analytics. It wasn't just numbers; it was the story behind the numbers. It was the thrill of transforming raw, disparate facts into meaningful insights. Thanks to UoPeople's impactful partnership with IBM, I have been given a tremendous opportunity to dive deep and explore the full spectrum of data careers.

I have begun to look at everything through a data lens, from business trends to social issues. While the entire field is captivating, one specific area resonates with me profoundly: Data Journalism

This is where my past and future converge. The meticulous observation of a ranger, the pedagogical clarity of a tutor, and the analytical rigor of business administration all find a home in the art of storytelling with data. A Data Journalist, or what I like to call a Datavist, does not just report the news; they visualize the truth, making complex, often hidden, realities accessible and undeniable.

I believe data should serve the public good, shedding light on important issues and fostering informed decisions. This is more than a career change; it's a calling to merge my skills in communication and analysis for a purpose.

So, here I am, standing at the trailhead of this exciting new adventure. I am officially pursuing my new career arena as a Datavist, ready to uncover, analyze, and tell the stories that matter.
